Farms in Meade County

F. L. Sipes Farms

Fred Sipes raises tobacco, soybeans, corn, wheat, hay, produce and beef cattle in Ekron, Ky. Fred is dedicated to conserving the land and water on his farm for the next generation of farmers. He has reduced soil erosion and improved water quality by installing grassed waterways, planting cover crops, and implementing crop rotations and no-till practices on his land. He uses rotational grazing practices to feed his cattle. These conservation practices have improved soil health, and wildlife habitat found on the farm.

Hardesty Farms and Greenhouses

Hardesty Farms and Greenhouses is a first generation family farm in Guston that was started in 2001. They raise beef cattle, tobacco transplants, poinsettias, spring flowers, vegetable plants, horse & cattle hay, and fresh local produce. They try to be as diversified as possible. We have transitioned some of our tobacco greenhouses over to spring flowers to survive the changing times. They have three girls.

If you would like your farm featured on this page, please email us a photo and a short description at info@teachkyag.org.

Barr Farms

Adam Barr and Rae Strobel and their family are part of a seventh-generation family farm called Barr Farms in Rhodelia, KY. They raise organic produce, 100% grass-fed beef and pastured chicken on Barr Farms, a 260-acre farm. They are one of the first farms in the area to offer customizable CSA farm shares. Adam and Rae see their farm as part of a larger community-- a network of people who are interdependent with each other. They grow healthy food for their family, friends and farm community.

Barr Farms offers 24 weeks of seasonal vegetables or meats (or both), mid-May through October. Learn more here, https://www.barrfarmsky.com
