Get Classroom Experience as an Agriculture Education Intern!

 2024 EngAGe Kentucky Internship Program

The Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom (TeachKyAg) has an exciting internship program made possible by the Kentucky Livestock Coalition, the Kentucky Soybean Board, and the Kentucky Office of Agricultural Policy. Up to 4 positions are available.

The goal of EngAGe Kentucky is to provide conversation-based presentations to intermediate elementary, secondary (middle and high school) students, post-secondary students, and community groups about agriculture/food production and technologies. Student interns will be required to complete a training workshop and will then be asked to visit classrooms and community groups throughout the 2024-2025 academic year.  Each intern will receive a $1000 scholarship ($500 at the end of each semester) and mileage reimbursement.

Criteria:

  • Student interns must be enrolled in a Kentucky agriculture, education, or communications program and have completed at least 30 hours of coursework. This includes students in undergraduate and graduate programs. Knowledge of production agriculture is required.

  • Student interns must provide their transportation to workshops and speaking events, but mileage will be reimbursed (up to 100 miles round trip from either school or home address, the closer address will be used)

  • Student interns must complete 25 hours of presentations/lessons per semester to receive the $500 at the end of each semester (or scholarship could be adjusted).

  • While local presentation requests may be forwarded to interns, student interns are responsible for scheduling their presentations to meet the 25-hour requirement per semester.

  • Student interns must utilize personal or school technology for the presentations and lessons, but lesson materials and digital presentations will be provided.

  • Student interns must be motivated and adhere to a flexible work schedule. Most work will be completed at school and events and at their desired locations. Students must also have at least one open day a week during the semester to attend schools and events.

  • Student interns must communicate effectively in person and through written correspondence. Teaching, public relations, and marketing experience are also desired.

  • Student interns must schedule presentations outside of class requirements. For example, earning a grade or credit for the presentation or teaching a lesson may not count toward the internship. Presentations may be scheduled in conjunction with observation hours.

Timeline:

  • Applications must be received by Friday, September 13, 2024

  • Interviews will be scheduled in late September, and interns will be announced by October 1, 2024.

  • Selected interns must attend a 2-hour virtual workshop, date TBD.

  • Selected interns must be available to commit to the program from October 1, 2024-May 30, 2025.
