Celebrate Farm to School Month in October with Virtual Farm Field Trips
Schools across Kentucky and the United States are connecting with their local farmers to provide students access to healthy, nutritious foods, and Farm to School Month in October brings more awareness to those efforts.
Kentucky Agriculture and Environment in the Classroom recently joined the Kentucky Farm to School Network with the Kentucky Horticulture Council, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, University of Kentucky, Kentucky Department of Education, and Food Chain Lexington and others* to help facilitate educational opportunities surrounding local food procurement. Teachers and educators have access to several lessons and resources to help students understand the impact of supporting local food systems.
Teachers and educators who choose to use the Kentucky Farms Feed Me Virtual Field Trip Series may request passport booklets for each of their students, a Linking Farm to Table game, and a flash drive of all the field trips. Each of the field trips are also available for sharing on Google Classroom. This program aligns to Primary Careers Studies and Social Studies with applications for Intermediate and Secondary Career Studies, Social Studies, Agriculture and Foods pathways.
The Kentucky Farm to School Network is a coalition of agencies, organizations, and advocates enthusiastic about farm to school programming in Kentucky.
