Garrard County Farms
Lazy Eight Stock Farm
Paint Lick, Kentucky is home to the Baumann family, consisting of multiple generations all with a love for the land and their farm. The 420 acres that comprise Lazy Eight have been farmed since 1947. In the past the farm has produced tobacco and beef cattle, but they now focus on fruits and vegetables such as sweet corn, strawberries, and tomatoes, and they also sell poultry and eggs.
LES Farm is certified organic and Kentucky Proud. They get customers through their Community Supported Agriculture program.
“Lazy Eight Stock Farm is inspired by the agriculture heritage of the land, both pre-historic and recent, and they aim to create a more nurturing and ecological farm to feed their neighbors and CSA community. Farmer Bryce Baumann applies holistic farming practices that are firmly rooted in biological systems – working in harmony with the natural world of plants, animals, insects, soils, and humans.” - Organic Association
Tallulah Farm
Talulah Farm is located in Lancaster. Dan and Kelcey started the farm in 2018 with the desire to connect with the food they were preparing for their two young children. Cooking had always been something they were accustomed to, but the behind-the-scenes of the food? Not so much. They set on a journey to grow delicious food for their family to learn the full extent of what went into growing the produce. In 2020, Tallulah Farms moved to selling at markets in the area and have had tremendous success. Customers are loving their different varieties of herbs, fruits, and vegetables and their willingness to help anyone interested in their way of farming—no-till and high density planting. Their approach is even more impressive once you learn that everything on the ½ acre farm is done by hand!
To top it all off, Kelcey also makes loaves on loaves on loaves of sourdough bread and different cookies. Customers have said the bread is the best in the area, which we think is a sign to go try it for yourself….for research purposes, of course!
