Kindergarten Science
K-PS2-1 Plan and conduct an investigation to compare the effects of different strengths or different directions of pushes and pulls on the motion of an object.
Made to Move (NAITC)
K-LS1-1 - Use observations to describe patterns of what plants and animals (including humans) need to survive. All animals need food to live and grow. They obtain their food from plants or other animals. Plants need water and light to live and grow.
Tail of Two Sheep (NAITC)
RSG: The Dirt on Soil – Soil types and plant needs
What Do We Need to Grow Food? – Google Slide activity
K-ESS2-2 - Construct an argument supported by evidence for how plants and animals (including humans) can change the environment to meet their needs. Plants and animals can change their environment. Animals hide their food or dam a water source. Tree roots can break through concrete.
RSG: The Dirt on Soil – plants break the soil with roots
RSG: The Business of Bees – Humans place bees where they need better plant pollination, and bees build their hives to meet their needs.
K-ESS3-1 - Use a model to represent the relationship between the needs of different plants or animals (including humans) and the places they live. Living things need water, air, and resources from the land, and they live in places with the things they need. Humans use natural resources for everything they do.
RSG: We All Wear Plants – use of natural resources
From Sap to Syrup (NAITC)
K-ESS3-3 - Communicate solutions that will reduce the impact of humans on the land, water, air, and/or other living things in the local environment. Things that people do to live comfortably can affect the world around them. But they can make choices that reduce their impacts on the land, water, air, and other living things.
Pig Needs and Habitats – Keeping pigs in shelters can reduce their environmental impact if managed well.
RSG: The Dirt on Soil – Reducing soil loss
K-PS3-1 - Make observations to determine the effect of sunlight on Earth’s surface.
K-PS3-2 - Use tools and materials to design and build a structure that will reduce the warming effect of sunlight on an area.
RSG: The Water Cycle – Water Evaporation: What could be placed on top of the water to reduce evaporation?
K-ESS2-1 - Use and share observations of local weather conditions to describe patterns over time.
K-ESS3-2 - Ask questions to obtain information about the purpose of weather forecasting to prepare for and respond to severe weather.
Ask farmers how they get weather information and what they do in response to the forecast. How do they protect their plants and animals? How do they change their management practices when there is too little or too much rain/snow?
K-2-ETS1: Engineering Design
K-2-ETS1-2 Develop a simple sketch, drawing, or physical model to illustrate how the shape of an object helps it function as needed to solve a given problem.
K-2-ETS1-1 Ask questions, make observations, and gather information about a situation people want to change to define a simple problem that can be solved through the development of a new or improved object or tool.
